Friday Favorites: Exotic Destinations

Please don’t give up on me!  This has been a busy week of birthday parties, working on the stop-procrastinating-Amy-get-it-done-now list, and all the other little things that tend to pop up.  Thank you to those faithful readers who still checked in for my weekly posts.  I’m still here!!

As you know from my last posting, I’m trying to find a summer destination.  I have been looking all over, debating and torn, trying to find a fun and new place to explore.  Just for kicks, I checked out one of my favorite blogs The Cool Hunter and found these amazing exotic treasure spots around the world.  Places that seem dreamlike!!  Maybe they will inspire me to finally pick a spot!  Have a look at my “Friday Favorites” exotic destinations around the globe…

Marble Caves, Chile Chico, Chile

Restaurant near Sanyou Cave above the Chang Jiang river, Hubei , China

Madeira, Portugal

Sky Lantern Festival – Taiwan

Keukenhof Gardens – Netherlands

Rice Field Terraces in Yunnan, China

Riomaggiore, Italy

Capilano Suspension Bridge, Vancouver, British Columbia

Benteng Chittorgarh, India

Aiguill e du midi, Chamonix, France

The Pearl Waterfall, Jiuzhaigou Valley, China

If you get a chance, check out this “cool” website.  The Cool Hunter searches the globe for awesome discoveries in every genre and it continues to inspire me in so many ways.  It might do the same for you!  If you’re a Pinster, you might just start pinning away.

Have you heard or traveled to a place you find exotic?  My exotic spot is a park on the East River in Queens that has 5 very large hammocks that overlook Manhattan’s majestic skyline.  Laying on those hammocks at night with the dazzling Manhattan view in the background feels exotic in my tiny world!  If you have an exotic spot and would like to share it, I would love to hear about it.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Until next ride,

Amy

Dreaming of Outdoor Space

It’s a hot one today and all I can think about is how nice it would be to have some outdoor space.  In our building we have a common rooftop with a few tables and chairs, but I’m dreaming of private spaces, cozy cushions, summer colors, and lots and lots of greenery!!  These are some amazing rooftops and terraces I found in the city…dreaming away…

So many beautiful cushions!  Love love how the greenery makes the lounge feel hidden.  I see myself sprawled out with a couple magazines, a mimosa or two, and my computer.

Love the pop of color on the white cushions and around the terrace!  Looks fresh, summery, and inviting.  I’m envisioning someone pouring me that wine on the coffee table with my feet up, sunglasses on, and reading 50 Shades of Gray!

What a view from this terrace!  Love the large cushions and touches of greenery throughout.  No matter how high in the sky, the city sounds can always be heard, but from here, all I hear are my sips of sangria and laughter with girlfriends!!  Still dreaming!

A Chelsea oasis!  1,600 sq ft of rooftop space, which is larger than our apartment!  Could this be Heaven?  I see myself tucked away in the corner lounge, curled up, and ordering in!

How romantic!  I see date night here!!!

A vacation spot or a hidden treasure in the city?  Love the green and white pillows and how it feels so intimate.  If it wasn’t for the Lipstick Building in the background I would think this was a European destination!

Shot this from our building’s common outdoor space.  Not too bad, right?  Has potential!  Maybe someday we’ll have a private space that I can decorate with lots of cushions, colors, and greenery, but until then, I’ll have fun dreaming!

Do you have an outdoor area you enjoy spending time in?  If so, I would love to hear about it.  Keep dreaming everyone!

Until next ride,

Amy

“Manners” by Kate Spade

Started reading May 27th!

Finished June 20th!!!

When I first saw this book on the bookshelf, I thought, is Kate Spade an expert when it comes to manners?  I know she has gorgeous accessories, I am a fan of her latest flame red Maise handbag, and I wore a pair of her beautiful bowtie peep toe shoes on my wedding day, but are these the signs of an etiquette specialist?  Maybe so!

At a glance the book cover is sleek and bright, each page has colorful chic pictures, and the topics are short and to the point.  Ms. Kate covers everyday situations from social flops and gracious recoveries, the power of written letters and artful conversations, travel tips, handling the cell phone era, embarrassing maneuvers, dress etiquette and disasters, and being a “good sport”.  I found the book, on everyday manners, to be things I already knew, but a good reminder to see in print.  It’s an entertaining whimsical read with witty humor along the way.  It’s no Emily Post or Judith Martin when it comes to etiquette teaching, but if you are looking to brush up on a few manners or just curious, I’m a little of both, then on one of these hot summer days, this whimsy informative read might just be for you!

Kate Spade has three lifestyle books “Manners”, “Style” and “Occasions”.  I’ve just purchased the “Occasions” book!   Probably need to brush up on my entertaining skills and I’m sure my style needs a little help too.  If you want to buy it, click on the book above!

Do you have an etiquette faux pas?  My public cell phone manners definitely need some special attention!  What about you?  I would love to hear about it.

Until next ride,

Amy

Checking Out of the City

The summer is here and the New Yorkers are Not!   The NY mornings and evenings are magical, but the days are anything but!  Once the clock strikes noon, be out or be weary.  Don’t let the sticky air trap you in or the heat from the sidewalks scare you from getting to your car or train, don’t make the mistake of leaving too early and getting caught in the tailgate rush out of town, and don’t head back too late and catch the exhausted beach loving city slicker’s bumper push back to the city.  If you time it JUST right, my friends, the perfect weekend is ahead!

I’ve made my list!!  I’m Checking Out but hopefully Checking In, summer weekend bucket list.

East Coast Beach

I am a California beach girl at heart, but there is something unique and tranquil about the east coast beaches.  The dunes, the wild grass, the picket fences, the warmer water, and lets not forget those beaches that can only be reached by ferry!  Who wants to join me?  Check me in, Please!

Cape May, NJ

Cape May, a gem at the bottom of New Jersey.  Only a three hour drive from the city to the Painted Ladies!  Can’t pass up award winning beaches, a quaint fishing harbor and a possible whale spotting!  We went last year and loved it.  Check me in again, Please!

Acadia National Park, Maine

How I long for a camping trip…with a lodge!   The smell of the pine trees, the sound of a rushing river with endless streams, hikes to hill tops with beautiful views of God’s country, and waking up to the sound of chattering birds and restless animals outside your window.  Does it get better, I ask?  Check me in, Please!

Block Island, Rhode Island

Block Island is a real get away only a few hours outside the city.  First by car, then by boat and you’re there!  This place is only accessible seasonal, so it has that true vacation feel, if only for a couple of days.  Check me in, Please!

This may be a little far for a weekend getaway, but wherever it is please, please check me in!

Where do you hope to check in this summer?  I would love to hear about it!

Until next ride,

Amy
