Headed to The Burbs

You might remember one of my posts on checking out of the city for summer weekends. We did just that last weekend!  We were invited to New Paltz, a small quaint town at the base of the Catskills, by our friends Pete and Cindy.  We were really looking forward to seeing them and dodging town.  Going to their home always feels like a mini vacation with great margs, amazing views, solitude of the country, fun conversations, and an evening fire (with s’mores!) under the smog free stars.  This city dweller forgets how beautiful a star filled sky can be.  Wish we could get here more often.  Why wish, lets make it happen!

Thought I would share a couple photos from our weekend.

Couldn’t resist a walk in the neighborhood.  Look at that Catskill view!  Always fun to walk by and admire the perfect homes, with the perfectly manicured endless lawns, perfect vacation-like backyards, and I’m sure the perfect family is laughing and sipping tea inside.  Okay, I might be dreaming just a little again, but the area is gorgeous and we did spot several deer frolicking through the yards!  Ha!  It did seem a little fairytaleish.

Then we had a delicious brunch with omelets, bacon, cider donuts, fresh berries, bloody marys and mimosas.   All this while over looking the Catskills on their terrace!  We certainly are starting the day off right!  Oh how I dread to leave.  If we moved into the guest bedroom do you think they would notice?

However, Maddie might blow our cover.  This almost perfect weekend had a minor glitch.  No baby proofing!  Chasing Maddie around was not easy and look where I found her!  Who knew she could climb so well.  We might have a future Catskills rock climber on our hands.

Wish we didn’t have to say good-bye to the weekend, but always nice to get home as well.  I have to say, this city girl does see herself in a country house someday or somewhere with open space.  Maybe I’ll settle for a home on a vineyard or beachfront property!  Not asking for too much, right?  Or, I might have to resort to pinning my five acre beachfront property!!  Either way, I think city living and having a family has caused me to appreciate the beauty of a rural lifestyle a lot more.

Where would your dream house be located?  Please tell!  I would love to hear about it.

Until next ride,

Amy

Fun Fourth Favorites

Happy 4th of July everyone!  What a fun time to plan family and friend gatherings, hitting the nearest fireworks show, or heading out of town.  We all get busy; therefore, I love to keep things simple – quick and easy!  One of my favorite magazines is Real Simple.  They always have lots of easy, fun, creative ideas that anyone can do.  It’s my go-to stress free guide!!!  This year we’re going to Mystic, Connecticut for some family fun, but if we were celebrating at home these would be my simple favorite picks for the 4th of July!  (Click on the pictures for more info from Real Simple)

1. Red, White and Blue Cocktails for the adults!  What’s a 4th without drinks!!!

2. A fun drink for the kids and everyone else.  Mix different types of fruit with anything – even water!

3. Don’t forget the snacks!  A simple and festive idea.

4. There’s always something delicious on the grill.  Kabobs are easy and fun!  Love this honey glazed chicken idea with grilled corn.  Cook them both at the same time.  Yummy, easy, and quick!

5. Everyone will be waiting for a light refreshing dessert!

6. Dessert or Snack!  Everyone loved these berry marshmallow kabobs when I made them for Maddie’s party!  With the colors, they look very 4th of July.   My shot doesn’t compare to the pictures above but you can get the idea.

7. Lets keep the kids happy, having fun and busy!  Making pom-poms is easy to do, only a few supplies are needed, and they can use them all day.

Dreaming of Outdoor Space

It’s a hot one today and all I can think about is how nice it would be to have some outdoor space.  In our building we have a common rooftop with a few tables and chairs, but I’m dreaming of private spaces, cozy cushions, summer colors, and lots and lots of greenery!!  These are some amazing rooftops and terraces I found in the city…dreaming away…

So many beautiful cushions!  Love love how the greenery makes the lounge feel hidden.  I see myself sprawled out with a couple magazines, a mimosa or two, and my computer.

Love the pop of color on the white cushions and around the terrace!  Looks fresh, summery, and inviting.  I’m envisioning someone pouring me that wine on the coffee table with my feet up, sunglasses on, and reading 50 Shades of Gray!

What a view from this terrace!  Love the large cushions and touches of greenery throughout.  No matter how high in the sky, the city sounds can always be heard, but from here, all I hear are my sips of sangria and laughter with girlfriends!!  Still dreaming!

A Chelsea oasis!  1,600 sq ft of rooftop space, which is larger than our apartment!  Could this be Heaven?  I see myself tucked away in the corner lounge, curled up, and ordering in!

How romantic!  I see date night here!!!

A vacation spot or a hidden treasure in the city?  Love the green and white pillows and how it feels so intimate.  If it wasn’t for the Lipstick Building in the background I would think this was a European destination!

Shot this from our building’s common outdoor space.  Not too bad, right?  Has potential!  Maybe someday we’ll have a private space that I can decorate with lots of cushions, colors, and greenery, but until then, I’ll have fun dreaming!

Do you have an outdoor area you enjoy spending time in?  If so, I would love to hear about it.  Keep dreaming everyone!

Until next ride,

Amy
