NY Sidewalk Flowers

Flowers can cheer me up and put an extra pep-in-my-step any day!  They can be cut and set out, at two in the afternoon, and the day would somehow feel like a fresh start.

This weekend we were walking around the Upper East Side, headed to Central Park, and we passed by one of the many charming characteristics that make NYC so special, the sidewalk flower shop!  There are so many things in the city that make it feel romantic, charming, and beautiful, and the sidewalk flower shop is one of them.   Always beautifully displayed, sometimes wraped around the corner, with a variety of stunning colors, petals and sizes, and a sweet scent that follows you down the street saying come back, come back.  Ok, maybe it’s just me hearing that, but those outdoor bouquets are quite the eye catcher!  Here’s the shop we walked by this weekend, and the flowers that were calling me back to take their picture.

Love how the flowers wrap around the corner and brighten up the block.  And, don’t worry if you forgot your cash, always an ATM inside!  Who wants to go home to an empty vase?  Unfortunately, last weekend we did, but not today!  On the way home I stopped by a neighborhood sidewalk flower shop and picked up some flowers I don’t normal choose, feeling inspired by something I saw on Pinterest, and this is what I came up with…

Hydrangeas are turning into my new favorite flowers for the apartment - a touch of classic and warmth.  Add a pop of color (I added purple baby’s breath – well, that’s what I’m calling it) and there’s no way a bouquet cannot brighten up and add some cheer to a room!

Do you have a certain type of flower you like to have around the house to brighten your day?  Do tell!

Until next ride,

Healthiest Meal on Earth – Verdict Is In!

Healthiest Meal On Earth worth eating or not?  Is it satisfying?  Does it taste good?  Would we eat it again?  Verdict, please!

It’s been in the news the last few weeks, online and in the magazines.  I was intrigued when I read the headline Healthiest Meal on Earth and then thought, ‘it must not taste very good.’  I started to read through the ingredients; there was salmon, which I could eat everyday if I really wanted to, and lentil, yogurt, walnuts, chicken, and caramel.  Really, caramel?   Don’t judge too fast, this meal might have possibilities!  We could be onto something here.

Could my taste buds accept something so healthy?  I usually assume healthy is less flavorful and boring, so healthiest in the world must mean, zero flavor!  I think?  However, I was intrigued by the title and it didn’t seem too terrible to try.  Would my husband get excited over lentil, veggies, and then yogurt for dessert, a good guess is no, but decided to give it a shot!

Here it is, the almost healthiest meal in the world!  I included everything except for the chicken, which was suppose to be in the lentil, so our healthiest meal in the world lacked a little protein.  I just didn’t get a chance to make the chicken, no other reason why.  I had gone to the grocery store late, Maddie was getting restless in the stroller, my basket was getting very heavy, I needed to get home, and the chicken was at the other end of the store!  It might not seem far, but when you have a hungry restless toddler, the end of the isle seems far!

The meal is actually very quick to make, especially since salmon cooks in just a few minutes (click here for recipe).  I added a squeeze of lemon for flavor to the salmon and used olive oil as salad dressing.  Looking at my finished product, I probably could have dressed-up the plate and dessert bowl a little with a few garnishes.  I’ll have to remember that for next time!  I always think presentation of a meal and table setting can make mealtime fun and inviting and adds conversation.  I really like table settings with lots of color (you know how I like color! ) from placemats, napkins, candles and flowers, and don’t forget, the food and drinks add color as well!  In the picture above, I used colored placemats and napkins, and I quickly put a couple purple flowers in a small vase, and wallah, done!

The verdict is in!!  Dean and I really enjoyed the meal.  There was a nice variety of food and a tasty dessert!  At first, I didn’t think I would be able to eat so much food, however at the end of the meal (I ate everything!) our taste buds and stomachs felt satisfied, not stuffed!  There was a nice amount of flavor from the salmon with lemon, the vegetables with mixed greens felt light and fresh, and I’m sure a squirt of lemon on the salad would have been palate pleasing as well.  I really like lentil, but I think Dean could have done without it.  The yogurt dessert with caramel was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s!  Overall, we both enjoyed the meal and would have it again!

Have you tried the healthiest meal in the world?  If so, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Until next ride,

Amy

Dreaming of Outdoor Space

It’s a hot one today and all I can think about is how nice it would be to have some outdoor space.  In our building we have a common rooftop with a few tables and chairs, but I’m dreaming of private spaces, cozy cushions, summer colors, and lots and lots of greenery!!  These are some amazing rooftops and terraces I found in the city…dreaming away…

So many beautiful cushions!  Love love how the greenery makes the lounge feel hidden.  I see myself sprawled out with a couple magazines, a mimosa or two, and my computer.

Love the pop of color on the white cushions and around the terrace!  Looks fresh, summery, and inviting.  I’m envisioning someone pouring me that wine on the coffee table with my feet up, sunglasses on, and reading 50 Shades of Gray!

What a view from this terrace!  Love the large cushions and touches of greenery throughout.  No matter how high in the sky, the city sounds can always be heard, but from here, all I hear are my sips of sangria and laughter with girlfriends!!  Still dreaming!

A Chelsea oasis!  1,600 sq ft of rooftop space, which is larger than our apartment!  Could this be Heaven?  I see myself tucked away in the corner lounge, curled up, and ordering in!

How romantic!  I see date night here!!!

A vacation spot or a hidden treasure in the city?  Love the green and white pillows and how it feels so intimate.  If it wasn’t for the Lipstick Building in the background I would think this was a European destination!

Shot this from our building’s common outdoor space.  Not too bad, right?  Has potential!  Maybe someday we’ll have a private space that I can decorate with lots of cushions, colors, and greenery, but until then, I’ll have fun dreaming!

Do you have an outdoor area you enjoy spending time in?  If so, I would love to hear about it.  Keep dreaming everyone!

Until next ride,

Amy
